PELICAN HEADS UP LITE

Pelican Products has been lighting our way underwater for years. I have several Pelican lights and they have always proved reliable and rugged. But for versatility and ease of use, it's hard to beat the Heads Up Lite. Hands-free illumination is simplicity of use in a nutshell. Any member of the dive world who needs the use of his/her hands while prowling the undersea world at night or in low light-marine biologists, scientists, fishwatchers, photographers, wreck divers, hunters, cave divers, etc.-will find the Heads Up Lite invaluable.

Additionally, I have found myriad uses topside-they're great for setting up campsites at night; searching through the dark corners of an attic or garage; or just about anytime I need extra light and two free hands.

Following in the footsteps of its predecessors, the Heads Up Lite is built for extreme use and longevity. It is watertight to 500 feet, which means that even Francisco Pipin could use it. The casing is built of corrosion proof ABS polymer; the lens is made of an high impact polycarbonate. The 4 by 4 by 23/8 inch case is available in black only.

The Heads Up Lite comes with one high (4.8 volt/.75 amp) and one low (4.8 volt/.5 amp) intensity krypton lamp that provides more light than one might think from so compact a source. Certainly, it is ample enough for many underwater tasks. The spare lamp is kept in the lamp housing and switching or swapping lamps is a quick and simple task. The beam of the Heads Up is adjustable via a swivel that allows 180 degrees of movement in the up or down direction. The on/off switch is oversized and can be activated even when wearing thick (I used 5mm) gloves.

For a maximum amount of comfort there is a wide head pad and the bright yellow elastic fabric headstraps are three-way adjustable for the perfect fit. A black, heat resistant rubber headstrap is also available.

The Heads Up is powered by four AA batteries with a burn time of two to three hours of continuous use with the high intensity lamp and four to five hours with the low intensity lamp.

While the Heads Up will never be able to compete with the super candlepower of the larger, handheld primary light sources, it is nicely versatile, compact and sufficiently bright for many uses, both above and below the water. And, the convenience of hands-free illumination while diving cannot be emphasized enough for both safety and simplicity.
